Project Gold: Porsche To Debut Car At Pebble Beach

Following in the footsteps of numerous other marques, Porsche are set to unveil their first official restomod, codenamed Project Gold. The car is being revealed painfully slowly by the legendary company, but we’ve gleaned a few tidbits. Firstly, we do know that it’s based on the 993, which was produced from 1994-1998. Project Gold’s body shape is undisputedly 993, complete with hollow-spoke wheels and 911 Turbo fonts on its black and gold seats. The engine, only just revealed by Porsche, is still a 3.6 liter straight-six, but produces 444 horsepower, compared to the original’s 396.
The paintjob is gorgeous, and could be read as either bronze or gold. Either way, it’s a gorgeous look, with an interior to match. As you can see from the video below, the name Project Gold is not based in hubris.
The wheels too, feature gold accents on their rim and center. The badge has moved from the hood to the front wing, with most of the other changes seeming to be just as minimal. When a project is so rooted in opulence and the pleasures of tradition, where else is there for it to have its debut but Pebble Beach? We’ll finally know everything about this Porsche, and whether you can buy one, come August 24 as part of the Monterey Car Week.
