Sting Ray Restomod Brings Style Beyond Compare
Every single Corvette model has been something of an American icon, but to me, it’s the C2 Corvette, the Sting Ray, that’s yet to be matched. When you take a look at its smooth swept lines, and consider its power, you realize it’s lacking nothing. It’s the only car I can think of that was modelled on a shark. It’s unique. This restomod, created by an anonymous Michigan builder, takes the car and makes it even moreso.
Built in Michigan, this Sting Ray restomod has earned numerous honors, and it’s easy to see why. From first glance, you can tell that a ton of work has gone into the restomod. It’s got a low-slung, aggressive stance, a stunning pitch black paintjob, and flawless chroming, with the car riding on Billet Specialties Sprint wheels. The interior is perfect too, with a splash of red contrasting wonderfully with the exterior.
If you’re like me though, you probably want to hear some facts and figures about the mechanicals. Sure, the C2’s stock engine is fun, but you want some more power these days. The engine is a handbuilt 496 ci V8 block from Bonefied Customs of Grand Rapids, Michigan. As you can imagine, this Sting Ray will go pretty damn fast. There’s also dual-carb, Eagle crankshaft, and Pro Comp cylinder heads. Among these improvements, there’s a few other ones that are easier to miss, including a custom chassis, Vintage Air, and a 3.73 posi differential. It’s a work of automotive art.
