Hertz Corporation never offered the GT500 in its 1967 fleet, but that did not stop the builder of this Resto Mod 1967 Ford Mustang from using the famed Black and Gold livery as the starting point for this outstanding build. Beneath the twin scooped fiberglass hood is a stroked, balanced and blueprinted 496 CI version of Ford’s big-block side-oiler V-8 that is built to both run and last.

A Scat 4340 forged steel crank and rods and Diamond 11:1 forged aluminum pistons guarantee maximum strength below decks, underpinned with a Canton Racing oil pan with windage tray. Free-breathing C&C cylinder heads are fitted with a T&D rocker system actuated by a custom ground Comp Cams .700-lift roller camshaft. The intake charge is fed through an Aeromotive fuel pump and module with return system to dual 750 CFM Quick Fuel carburetors on a Dove high-rise intake manifold and fired by an MSD ignition system.

Behind the lightweight steel flywheel is a McLeod twin disc 9.5-inch clutch actuated by a Modern Driveline Products Hydraulic clutch system, contained by an NHRA Quicktime scatter shield. The transmission is a heavy-duty Tremec 5-speed with carbon-fiber synchro rings built by Modern Driveline Products and backed by a Chromoly Fab-9 rear end housing built by Chris Alston’s Chassisworks.

Custom gauges and a billet shifter are modern touches in the otherwise stock Mustang interior, but the trunk has been completely personalized with a monster sound system and custom body-matching upholstery. Wrapped in Hertz Black and Gold with full Shelby regalia and hunkered down over ultra-wide billet wheels and fresh performance rubber, this Rent-a-Racer-themed 1967 Mustang has loads of performance in a great-looking package.
